Spring on the Island

Amidst the blooming forsythia and budding weeping willow,
The flowers of crocus and the buds of daffodils,
The sound of the blackbird singing its masterpiece,
The clean crisp air and the hint of much more botanical display,
My soul is renewed and heart filled with praise
to the Maker of all of these treasures.

Sledding on Long Island

Due to the flatness of the South Shore Long Islanders take to the parkways and highways to do their sledding- what fun!

January Weather or Not?

For the fish pond to thaw out in January, our coldest month is highly unusual. Must be global warming. :-) Long Island winters are great. There is not too much snow but enough and we do get a spring tease in the most frigid part of the year. We'll be dropping back to the normal temperatures over the weekend, but that is okay- January is supposed to be cold.
Spring will soon be here on the Island.
We who live here love it here.

How Do You Like Winter?

My answer to a question from a fellow Long Islander this morning:

I love the birds that come to my feeders (check out my blog!). I love the cold. I can always get warmer enough but in the summer you can only cool down to a certian extent. I love the lessening of perspiration (Remember you asked). Since I love being outside (you gotta see my outside office at the picnic table in the backyard this summer), the cold ... See cold weather forces me to stay inside and journal like I did yesterday. I love the foods of winter: roast turkey, hot homemade soups, and corned beef and cabbage. I love the citris fruit. I love the city in winter. Summer I die there! I love winter clothing too!

Bagels Everywhere!

On my way to a gathering at our church's nursery school where we enjoy fresh bagels...living here you can take this for granted. I am so thankful!

Sea Turtle

Tony Esposito and I were simply crabbing on Thursday when
this guy showed up at the end of the line! Of course we let him go.
