The Four Seasons

One of the things we are noted for on the Island is our four distinct seasons. My Aunt Vivian used to travel up from southern Florida and spend a month here in the spring because she missed it so bad in the south. My friend, Roy Probeyahn, calls our fall, "Long Island's Best Kept Secret". There is nothing like the beach, either Jones Beach or Robert Moses, in the summer. Our winters are winters most of the time. It can get bitterly cold in the 6 weeks of deep freeze we have In January and February but this year proved it can as mild as spring with no snow days (sorry kids!)

Life is full of seasons. Change is something we must adjust to or we are in for some difficult times emotionally. Loss is part of life. So are new things.

In the changes you are experiencing now, one thing is certain: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever! Look to Him this day!

Heavenly Breezes

When I was a kid we had a Sunday School chorus that included the line "Heavenly breezes blow..." Today on Long Island that song has come to life! It is an absolutely gorgeous day! No wonder nearly 3 million people call this place home. We have some of the most beautiful and varied weather on earth. (My biased opinion)  :-)

The Holy Spirit is likened to the wind many times in God's Word. Today, if you are in need, of a fresh touch from the LORD, let the Spirit blow freshly into your life right now. He can help you, comfort you, give you new power, counsel you and guide you!

At the Marina

Last evening I drove down to the marina. The bay was rough to say the least! The wind was gusting and the air was full of salt. The temperature was very cool. It felt like at least 10 degrees cooler than when I left my house just 2 miles away.


There were people everywhere. I enjoyed watching them. Some were getting soaked as they fished by the waves breaking over the dock. Others were exercising or just walking. A few daring souls were  swimming!


I picked up my Bible and read Psalm 33 and Psalm 104. God's creation is amazing. He made it for us to enjoy. I have taken full advantage of His gift.


He made the sea and everything in it. Even the seaweed! While it seems to be an annoyance to many each spring I load up bags of this free fertilizer and put it all around my tomato plants. It has nutrients we can not get from the dry land. It keeps weeds down and it helps retain moisture around the plants. It also contains some residue saline from the water. In Israel there is a little saline in the water in parts of the Negev. That salt ends up making their grape tomatoes the sweetest on earth. God is too much. His mercies are new every morning!

Fall On Long Island

The spring weather is pleasant with a shot of winter letting us know what it is leaving behind. The fall weather is pleasant with a little bit of summer hanging around with changing leaf colors, crisp juicy apples, Montauk daisies blooming and pumpkins appearing. Long Island Falls are beautiful and enjoyable.

Long Island's best kept secret: Its Autumn! Low humidity, clear skies and pleasant temperatures! We are loving it!

The Great South Bay

We are an Island! We are a very unique island but we are an island. Surrounded by water, Long Island has over 1,200 miles of coastland-water front property. One of the cool things is wherever you are on Long Island (over 120 miles long), you are never more than 15 minutes from the salt water. The Long Island Sound on the northshore and the Atlantic Ocean on the south shore along with all kinds of bays. The big one, the Great South Bay, was the one I was at this morning. It was beautiful there. I had some paper work to do and so I sat at a picnic table in the shade and worked on it. The main reason I went was for the sea weed. With All the Changes It is Still The Best!

Several have written of the changes Long Island has undergone over the past 50 years. There is no doubt. Others have written of the things they do not miss having left the Island. But for those of us who remain (and all three of my kids are raising their kids right here) we know a good thing. Sure we have disadvantages but Long Island still rocks. From it Little League teams to its renewal of Main Streets, from its beaches to its bagels, its proximity to the city to its rich soil, it is the best!
